Municipal Fiscal Health Check Rhode Island's Cities and Towns 2003 - Based on FY 2001 Data - On Monday, April 14, 2003, the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council (RIPEC) released its first Municipal Fiscal Health Check For Rhode Island Cities and Towns. Based on selected indicators, RIPEC reported on the overall fiscal condition of RhodeIsland’s municipalities. The information for each of the 39 cities and towns includes general demographics, revenues and expenditures, operating position indicators, debt structure and pension liability. The data is based on FY 2001 municipal audits. FY 2001 audits have been used because these are the most recent audits that were available for all 39 communities. Pension data from the Annual Financial Report for FY 2000 prepared by the Employees Retirement System of Rhode Island have also been used to supplement this information. It is RIPEC’s hope that the Health Check will serve as a comprehensive, user-friendly document for both taxpayers and decision makers regarding the financial conditions of our communities.
