RIPEC's 74th Annual Meeting with Keynote Address by Dr. Frank Luntz

PROVIDENCE R.I. (October 2017) - The Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council held its 74th Annual Meeting on Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Rhode Island Convention Center. Dr. Frank Luntz, renowned pollster and political pundit, delivered the keynote address.  Attendees also heard remarks from Speaker of the House Nicholas A. Mattiello, Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio and Governor Gina Raimondo.
 
As part of the evening's events, RIPEC honored this year's public service award recipients, Lawrence J. Mancini, Finance Director for the City of Providence, and Linda Haley, Principal Legislative Budget Analyst for the Rhode Island House Fiscal Advisory Staff. Paula Twidale, Chair of the Public Service Award Selection Committee said, "The integrity and dedication to public service demonstrated by both of this year’s distinguished award recipients makes them an asset to Rhode Island, and we are proud to honor them as part of this year’s annual meeting.”
 
The Board of Directors and Trustees also approved the organization's operating program for the next two years. The program will focus on three key areas: economic development and the business climate; education and workforce development; and state and local fiscal policy.
 
Council officers, directors and trustees were also elected at the evening's event:
 
Officer Elections: Robert A. DiMuccio, Chairman, President and CEO of AMICA, was reelected RIPEC's President for a term expiring on March 31, 2018.  Mr. DiMuccio will remain on the Board after March 31, 2018.  Mim L. Runey, Providence Campus President and Chief Operating Officer of Johnson & Wales University, was elected to serve as RIPEC’s President-elect until March 31, 2018, when she will become President of RIPEC, replacing Mr. DiMuccio.  Patrick A. Rogers, Partner at Hinckley Allen & Snyder LLP, was elected to become Vice President of RIPEC.  James H. Hahn, Partner at Partridge Snow & Hahn LLP, was reelected Secretary; and Christopher Jackson, Tax Partner at Ernst & Young LLP, was reelected Treasurer.
 
Directors Re-Elected: The following seven directors were reelected, each to serve a three-year term: Peter T. Bowman, Government Affairs, Verizon; Malcolm Griggs, Chief Risk Officer, Citizens Bank; Pete Hayes, Cushman & Wakefield/Hayes & Sherry; Ronald K. Machtley, President, Bryant University; John T. Ruggieri, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Gilbane; Mim L. Runey, LP.D., Providence Campus President and Chief Operating Officer, Johnson & Wales University; and Gregory A. Woods, President and Chief Executive Officer, AstroNova.
 
New Trustees: Nancy Carriuolo, Vice President for Advancement, New England Institute of Technology; Jason DaPonte, Partner, Sansiveri, Kimball & Co., LLP; Sam Hanna, Senior Vice President, Director Middle Market Banking, Webster Bank, N.A.; John J. Holiver, Chief Executive Officer, CharterCARE Health Partners; Jeanne LaChance, President and Chief Executive Officer, Thundermist Health Center; Rick Metters, Vice President, RI Public Affairs, Fidelity Investments; and Brian J. Spero, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Beacon Mutual Insurance Company.
